Who are ecostore?

SKIN by ecostore is a diffusion line by ecostore that has drowned the health food shop market with their demagogically tested, naturally-derived products for skin. The brand is based in New Zealand and uses local ingredients to create powerhouse formulations to replenish and regenerate skin. Some of their main ingredients in their formulations include:

  • New Zealand marine extract for ultimate skin hydration

  • Antioxidant and vitamin-rich grapeseed extract

  • Omega-packed blackcurrant oil

Ecostore was born originally with household cleaning products, with the intent of promoting a no-toxin household and limiting completely the exposure to unhealthy chemicals found in everyday products. Supporting their journey to healthier homes and environment is scientifically backed research, and full transparency over their formulations. In Australia and New Zealand, labelling for cleaning products is not a legal requirement, however ecostore have made it a condition of their brand, to ensure ultimate transparency to their consumers.

Not only is their ingredient list safe for us, so is their packaging. Plastic are made from sugarcane, with 92% of each bottle made from renewable content, and is 100% recyclable. The packaging is Carbon Capture™, known as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics, as it traps CO₂ from the atmosphere, ultimately reducing your carbon footprint too.

First impressions

The Multi-Nutrient Facial Oil has high notes of blackcurrant in its fragrance. It’s sweet and nourishing scent is warm.

This oil has a lightweight texture. Due to the composition of ingredients has a high fatty acid component which provides a nourishing skin feel and luminous afterglow on the skin.

As the marketing suggests, this oil is fine for all skin types due to the composition of ingredients. Dry skin particularly will enjoy the efficacy of the product as it provides lasting hydration and omega oils to nourish the skin for longer. As Jojoba Oil is one of the first ingredients, the oil can be used for sensitive skin to help balance oil production and inflammation.

The Good

Jojoba Oil - there’s no other oil that has such synergy with our skin like Jojoba oil does. This liquid wax is produced from the seed of the Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) plant, and its chemical structure is very similar to the sebum produced by human skin. It fights against oxidative stress - an imbalance between the production of free radicals on the skin and the ability of the body to detoxify, and is rich in iodine which fights harmful bacteria growth that usually leads to breakouts.

Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil
is found from the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc grape. This specific grape produce ultra-high levels of antioxidants to protect themselves from strong sun. In topical preparations, the benefits of using this ingredient is that it delivers an antioxidant level 50 times stronger than Vitamin E and 20 times stronger than Vitamin C.

Squalane is non-irritating up to 100% of its concentration. For all of its glory, it’s suitable for every skin type. It leaves a non-oily residue due to its ability to sink into the skin almost immediately.

The Questionable

Parfum (Essential Oil Fragrance) is a questionable ingredient as many different ingredients can be labelled under this title. Although ecostore promote the exclusion of synthetic fragrances and have identified it is from essential oil, we wonder if it would have been more appropriate to list the essential oil that was used. According to the EWG, the average “fragrant” or “parfum” can be any of 3,163 chemicals that aren’t normally listed on labels. Many of these chemicals are linked to hormone disruption and allergic reactions as they fall usually under phthalates, oxtoxynols and nonoxynols. Although this may not be the case in this ingredient listing, we’d rather read the appropriate oil used.
