Trilogy Botanical Body Wash Product Review
— Body Wash
Trilogy’s Botanical Body Wash is a gentle gel-like textured formula, that lightly foams to create a delicate, gentle wash. The fresh, invigorating scent is owed to the three hero ingredients: Rosehip oil for hydration and repair, Kawakawa for stimulation and antioxidant properties, and Amla for its traditional use of healing and toning properties. It creates a spa-like aroma-therapeutic experience once the lather infuses the shower-steamed air. The gel formula leaves a non-drying finish to the skin, keeping it hydrating and nourished while feeling clean.
Who are Trilogy?
Trilogy is a New Zealand-born skincare brand that developed from the discovery of Rosehip Oil’s benefits for skin. Created in 2002, Sarah Gibbs and Catherine de Groot took to natural skincare as a new phenomenon, bringing it back to basics creating a range of five rosehip-based skincare products. The brand integrity lies in the belief that independent certifications matter, coining the NATRUE Natural Cosmetics Certification in 2012 as the first New Zealand brand to do so. The hero oils used in many of Trilogy’s formulations hold BioGro Organic Certification, maintaining consistency among their products.
Trilogy hold social responsibility strongly as part of their business model, supporting local communities and causes close to their hearts. Their latest project is supporting Mants’ase Children’s Home in Lesotho, Southern Africa in donating a portion of their Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+ (15ml) sales to supporting the home. The home was found through Trilogy’s relationship with one of their Rosehip oil suppliers based in Lesotho through social investment.
This fragrance is euphoric, creating a spa-like experience in your shower. The unusual scent of Kawakawa coupled with the gentle floral fragrance of Rosehip creates a fresh, uplifting, and almost intoxicating experience.
The Botanical Body Wash has a gel texture that foams lightly when in contact with water.
Trilogy have created a luxurious product that can be introduced into your daily routine. With the promise to freshen, clean and nourish the skin gently, the careful selection of the purest ingredients deliver a staple product for your shower.

This product uses 2 types of plastic in its packaging and a plastic label.
Trilogy packaged the Botanical Body Wash in the most run-of-the-mill, single use plastic, PET. An economical and safe plastic, it saves energy and costs for manufacturers, however is incredibly tricky to recycle and takes approximately 500 years for it to decompose.
The pump is PP – a durable plastic used for its smooth and waxy properties for easy consumer use. It’s a favourable plastic in regard to its biodegradable properties however it takes hundreds of years, and potentially forever, to biodegrade.

Aloe Vera is incredibly soothing for many skin types, and serves as an anti-inflammatory. It’s incredibly hydrating due its high-water content and includes many rich antioxidants such as Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Vitamin C, as well as active enzymes that nourish the skin surface. Many manufacturers find this ingredient particularly useful in large quantities due to its effectiveness as a skin moisturiser, as well as its ability to cool the skin. Not only is this music to a beach-goer’s ears, but those who naturally hold more heat in their skin will benefit from buying skincare products that use Aloe Vera as a core component. This ingredient in Face Tan Water is certified organic.
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (Chamomile) is a gentle ingredient in relieving inflammatory skin conditions and helps calm sensitivities. Chamomile provides some antioxidant protection and assists in inhibiting the growth of bacteria.
Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract is a valuable source of nutrients, packed with amino acids, fatty acids and vitamins such as ascorbic acid (vitamin C). It’s widely used as a treatment for sunburn because of its cooling effect, reducing redness and inflammation to the skin.
Sodium Coco Sulphate (SCS) is almost identical in chemical composition as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. This ingredient is what most sulphates are being swapped out for in the natural cosmetics industry due to their connections to skin and eye irritations, and organ toxicity. Unfortunately, Sodium Coco Sulphate undergoes the same process of manufacture as SLS, making it another synthetic detergent, and its chemical composition shows that SLS is a predominant component of this structure. If you’re trying to avoid sulphates, you need to avoid this ingredient as well. Although limited research indicates the dangers of SCS, we know that it’s manufactured and used to work similarly to SLS.
Parfum (Fragrance) is an ambiguous ingredient in any listing, even if it’s been labelled “from natural sources”, or “natural fragrance”. According to the EWG, the average “fragrant” can be any of 3,163 chemicals that aren’t normally listed on labels. Many of these chemicals are linked to hormone disruption and allergic reactions as they fall usually under phthalates, oxtoxynols and nonoxynols. If a fragrance is natural, we would assume it would be labelled on the ingredients list in its botanical name.
